Miroslaw 'Mike' Pasternak, age 73 of 1815 Felicity Lane, Hellertown, PA, died Thursday, February 17, 2000 at the St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill, PA.  He was the husband of Betty L. (Shiffer) Pasternak.  The couple observed their 50th wedding anniversary last February.

Born in Bethlehem, PA on September 11, 1926, he was the son of Stephen and Nellie (Spodaryk) Pasternak.  He was Senior Tax Accountant at the Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 29 years until his retirement.  He was also a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Hellertown, where he was past Vice president of its Church Council, Past chairman of the Finance Committee and had served on its endowment Trust Committee.

He served in the US Coast Guard during World War II and earned a BS in Accounting from Ryder College in Trenton, NJ.  He has served as past President of the Hellertown Lions Club 1976-1977, on the Board of Directors of the Union Cemetery of Hellertown, as past Chairman of the Hellertown Borough Authority and past Board Member of the Keystone Savings & Loan, Hellertown Branch and was Founding and Charter Member of the Saucon Valley Community Center, Hellertown.  He was a member of the Edward H. Ackerman Post 397, Hellertown and served on the Citizens Panel for Police Awareness in Hellertown.

He is survived by his Wife, a Daughter, Diane P., wife of Robert J. Voron of Bethlehem, PA, a Son, Dr. Richard D. Pasternak of Richboro, three Sisters, Natalie wife of John Yawney Sr of Bethlehem, PA, Mary Morykan of Bethlehem, PA, Olga, wife of Charles A. Weber of Fort Mill, SC, a Brother, Walter Pasternak of Hellertown, PA and 3 Grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc.,  326 Main Street, Hellertown, with continued services at 11:00 a.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church, 69 Main Street, Hellertown.  Calling hours will be 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Funeral home.  Interment will be at Union Cemetery of Hellertown.

In Lieu of flowers, Memorials can be made to Christ Lutheran Church - 69 Main Street, Hellertown, PA 18055.


Mike you were a gem! You were honest, straight forward, hardworking, and very generous. Lenore and I will remember you and all your tools that you loaned us or showed us how to use when we moved into our very first home. You are missed. phil and lenore
