Wilbur J. Haines, age 88, of Allentown PA, formerly of Schnecksville and Cetronia PA, died Thursday, October 21, 2004 in The Phoebe Home, where he resided for the past 3 years. He was the Husband of Betty E. (Schneck) Haines The couple celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary this past July.

Born in Cetronia PA, he was the son of the late Ira and Ida (Grim) Haines. He was a Life Insurance Agent and Capital Analyst for the Fidelity Mutual Life Insurance Company, Bethlehem PA for 33 years, retiring in 1990. Prior to that, he Operated the Haines Bros. Flour Mill in Cetronia PA from 1946 – 1957, which is now a National Historical Site where he continued to guide tours. He also was a Substitute Teacher and Coach at Parkland High School.

He was a Member of the Faith United Church of Christ, Allentown PA, where he served as Consistory President. He also was a former Deacon, Elder and Sunday School Teacher of Cedar Union Church, Cetronia.

He was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II. He was also a Charter Member of Boy Scout Troop # 29 and Pack #29 in Cetronia, having received the Silver Beaver Award and held the post of District Chairman; Past Secretary of the Upper Lehigh Lions Club, Schnecksville PA from 1984 - 1989.; Member of the Pennsylvania German Society; Life Member of the Cetronia Fire Company; Past President of the Cedar Creek Fish & Game Club; Member of Ranger Lake, North Whitehall Township PA; Member of the Grouse Hall Fish & Game Club, North Whitehall Township PA; Charter Member and Captain of the first Track Team at South Whitehall High School; While attending East Stroudsburg State Teachers College he was a Member of the Football and Basketball teams and was Captain of the Track team; Charter and Life Member of the Trojan Varsity Athletic Association of Parkland High School and was on the Scholarship Committee for 30 years; Charter Member of the Parkland Optimist Club; and Former Vice President of the Lehigh Valley Diabetes Association.

He is survived by his Wife; Daughters, Janice C., wife of Dr. Dale L. Landis of Bedford MA, Eleanor L., wife of Robert A. Kindt of Exton PA and Alice L. Funk and her fiancé Larry B. Bernhard of Allentown PA; Son, Roger J. and his wife Janet S. (Hudak) Haines of Coatesville PA; Brothers, Paul K. Haines of Emmaus PA and Albert P. Haines of Allentown PA; 9 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren. He is predeceased in death by his Brother, Joseph I. Haines and Sister, Lillian Haines.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 25, 2004 in the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville PA. Family and Friends may Call 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Sunday in the Funeral Home. The Reverend Dr. Christine L. Nelson officiating. Interment in Cedar Union Cemetery, Cetronia PA.
