Andrew Makarchuk, Jr., age 79, of Birch Road, Hellertown PA, died Thursday, November 7, 2002 at the St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill PA. He was the Husband of Nancy G. (Lawrence) Makarchuk. The couple celebrated their 37th Wedding Anniversary this past August.

Born in Ashley PA, he was the Son of the late Andrew Sr. and Mary (Kasko) Makarchuk. He was a Technician for the UGI Corporation, Bethlehem PA, retiring in 1982. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II. He was a Member of Christ Lutheran Church, Hellertown PA.

Mr. Makarchuk was an avid Baseball Player and played Professional Minor League Baseball for many years. He was a Tri-County Hall of Fame Inductee in 1991 and Member of the Tri-County League from 1954-1961; Member of the Hellertown Champion's 1958, 1959 and 1961; Member of the Lynns Catholic League, So. Bethlehem PA in 1950 and Champions in 1942; Member of the Lutheran League, Freemansburg PA in 1949; Member of the Nazareth and Mahanoy City Semi-Pro League from 1946-1949; Member of the North Atlantic League Class D; Member of the Wagnersville Catholic Lynns from 1941-1943; and Member of the Junior American Legion in 1939.

He is survived by his Wife; Sons, David M. Makarchuk at home and Robert O. Makarchuk of Lehighton PA; Daughter, Gail F. Stefaniak of Alburtis PA; Sister, Helen Borovies of Hellertown PA and Anna of Bethlehem PA; and 3 Grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2002 in the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 326 Main Street, Hellertown with continued services 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 69 Main St., Hellertown. Family and Friends may call 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the Funeral Home.
