Ruth A. (Kern) Mack, age 83, of Slatington PA, died Saturday, April 26, 2003 in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township PA. She was the Widow of the late Claude E. Mack. Born in Washington Township PA, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin L. Kern and Mabel E. (Walter) Schmale Kern. She was an Elementary School Teacher in the Northern Lehigh School District for 45 years, retiring in 1984. Her teaching career began in a 2 Room School House in Washington Township from 1939 - 1955 and from 1955 - 1984 she taught in the Peters Elementary School. Mrs. Mack graduated from the former Kutztown Normal School and received her Bachelor's Degree from Muhlenberg College. She was a Member of the Union United Church of Christ, Neffs PA where she was a Member of the Helping Hands, a 60 years choir member, former Assistant Organist and formerly served on the consistory from 1987 - 1991. Mrs. Mack was the Primary Sunday School Department Head of Union Sunday School, Neffs PA where she was the former Pianist and Organist for 60 years. Mrs. Mack also taught vacation bible school. She was a 41 year Member and Pianist/Organist of the Slatington Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star # 458; Life Member of the Neffs Volunteer Fire Company; Member and Pianist of the Schnecksville Senior Citizens; Member of the Retired Teachers Association; Member and Past Master of the former Washington Grange # 1763, Washington Township PA and a current Member of the Schnecksville Grange # 1684. She is survived by her Twin Sister, Rachel A. Diehl of Schnecksville PA; and her Nephew and Niece. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2003 in the Church, 5550 Route 873, Neffs PA. Family and Friends may Call 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville PA. Eastern Star Service will be held 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Funeral Home. The Reverend Thomas N. Thomas and The Reverend Kris P. Snyder-Samuelson officiating.
