Evelyn C. Van Gieson, 88, of Riegelsville, PA, formerly of Whiting, NJ, died Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Doylestown Hospital. She is the wife of the late Paul V. Van Gieson who died March 8, 1999. Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 7, 1919, she is the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Dodge) Cuffe. Evelyn was an English teacher at Passaic Valley Regional High School in Little Falls, NJ, Nyack Boys School in Nyack, NY, and other schools. She also worked as a children’s librarian in the Hillsdale Public Library, retiring in 1980. She graduated from the College of St. Elizabeth in 1940 and was a member of its Alumni Association. She also attended Columbia University and was a member of the American Association of University Women. She is survived by her son, Joseph C. and his wife Molly Martin Van Gieson of Kingsland, GA; her son, James P. and his wife Kathy of Foster, RI; and her daughter, Mary E. Van Gieson, wife of Richard G. Smith with whom she resided. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren: Benjamin and Michael Van Gieson, and Kathleen Smith. She was predeceased by her brother, Edwin Dodge Cuffe, SJ who died in 1979. Family and friends are invited to call 9:15 - 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 20th, 2008 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc. 326 Main St. Hellertown, PA followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Riegelsville.
