Eleanor R. (Fox) Johnson, 86, formerly of Schnecksville, died Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Fellowship Manor, Whitehall, where she had been residing. She was the wife of the late Walter W. Johnson, Sr.

Born in Bridgeton, New Jersey, on February 2, 1924, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Horace W. and Mabel M. (Vanaman) Fox. After graduating from the Cooper Hospital School of Nursing in 1945, she was employed as a school nurse in the Allentown School District for 33 years before retiring in 1995. During her career in school nursing and while at the William Allen High School, she introduced many students to nursing as advisor to the Future Nurses of America Club. Active in the life of her community, she was a member of the Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, a member of the Upper Lehigh Lioness Club, a member of the North Whitehall Township Historical Society and a volunteer for the Parkland Community Library.

Survivors: Children, Nancy M. Dougherty and her husband, John of Kutztown, Dr. Walter W. Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Theresa of Schnecksville, David S. Johnson and his wife, Marianne of Quakertown; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren. Service: Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5500 Route 873, Schnecksville, with the Rev. Dennis W. Moore officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the church. Interment will follow the service at Union Church Cemetery, Neffs. The Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., in Schnecksville is in charge of arrangements.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Union Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund c/o the funeral home, P.O. Box # 196, Schnecksville, PA 18078-0196.

Our sincere condolences on the loss of your mother, always known as Auntie Eleanor to me. I have many fond childhood memories of times spent with her in summers past.
She was a wonderful women, and I admired her

My condolences to Eleanor's family. She was my school nurse @ AHS and I was in her Future Nurses Club my 3 years @ AHS. I am now the nurse @ Raub MS in ASD and run a "Health Careers Club". She was a caring woman and a wonderful nurse.
