Anna M. (Mertz) Schaffer Rex, 89, formerly of Kunkletown, Orangeville and Slatington, died Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Weatherwood-Carbon County Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Ralph C. Schaffer and Irvin L. Rex.

Born in Washington Township, July 22, 1920, Anna was the daughter of the late Charles B. and Edna T. (Kreitz) Mertz. She was employed as a head cook for the Klingerman Nursing Center and the former Char-Mund Nursing Home both located in Orangeville, Columbia County before retiring. She was a member of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs and a Life Member and Lecturer of the former Washington Grange.

Survivors: Son, Charles R. Schaffer and his wife Diane of Canadensis; daughter, Ramona A. Schaffer of Orangeville; stepchildren, Robert A. Rex, Ramona J. Lauchnor and Patricia J. Gordon; five grandchildren; two great granddaughters.

Service: Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010 in the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville with the Rev. Kris P. Snyder-Samuelson officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Union Church Cemetery, Neffs.
