Alvin G. Gibiser, 83, of Allentown, died Thursday, July 29, 2010 in the Inpatient Hospice Unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Helen S. (Sirko) Gibiser. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last November 5.

Born in South Whitehall Township, December 4, 1926, Alvin was the son of the late Joseph J. and Helen M. (Schraden) Gibiser. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Alvin was employed as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, Bethlehem office, for 16 years before retiring in 1989. Prior to that, he worked in retails sales at the former Freeman's Dairy and as a machine operator at the former Knitt Crest Mfg. Co. both of Allentown. He also was a self-employed photographer.

Active in the life of his community, he was a life and charter member and secretary of the former South Whitehall Lion's Club where he was honored with a Melvin Jones Fellow, awarded to him for his dedicated humanitarian services by the Lions Club International Foundation. He also was a volunteer and Past President of the Woodlawn Fire Company. Alvin was a member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Allentown.

Survivors: In addition to his wife, Helen; son, Dennis G. Gibiser and his wife, Arline of Allentown; daughters, Marie H. Gibiser and her companion, Ray G. Keller, Jr. and Diane M. Wachter and her husband, Gerald, both of Allentown; sister, Jeanette Stahley of Allentown; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; predeceased by sons, Richard A. Gibiser and Ronald J. Gibiser, a sister, Jean Stahley and a brother, Norton Gibiser.

Service: Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2010 in the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville with the Rev. John Eric Lamb officiating. Family and friends may call 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Monday, in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Grandview Cemetery, Allentown.
