Frederick J. “Fred” Jaindl, 76 years, of Orefield, died Monday, March 29, 2004 in North Whitehall Township. He was the husband of Anne L. (Fix) Jaindl. The couple celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary last February 18th.

Mr. Jaindl is the owner of Jaindl's Turkey Farm, breeders and growers of Grand Champion Brand turkeys and Jaindl's Turkey Hatchery both of Orefield. He was Chairman and President of Jaindl, Inc., sellers and processors of Grand Champion brand turkeys. Mr. Jaindl was Chairman of Jaindl Land Company, developer of prime residential, commercial and industrial land in the Lehigh Valley. Mr. Jaindl was Chairman and President of Lehigh Ag, which specialized in sales and service of John Deere agricultural and consumer products. Mr. Jaindl was Chairman and President of Lehigh Grains, Inc. Mr. Jaindl was a Partner in Schantz Orchards. He was also Chairman of American Bank of the Lehigh Valley.

Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late John L. and Hilda K. (Trinkle) Jaindl. He was veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army Air Corp. Mr. Jaindl was a member of St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church, Orefield.

Mr. Jaindl was a pioneer and innovator of modern turkey farming. Mr. Jaindl first started growing turkeys with his father, John L. Jaindl, on a farm located on Walbert Avenue in Allentown. Working on the farm through his school years, and after graduating from South Whitehall High School, now known as Parkland, where he served as President of his class. Mr. Jaindl started working full time with Jaindl Farms, farming 60 acres and raising 2000 turkeys per year. From 1954 through 1956, he was instrumental in Jaindl Farms winning the Grand Champion, Reserve Champion and Best Display in the World Wide during National Turkey Federation competition. In 1965, Mr. Jaindl purchased the farm from his father at the production rate of 200,000 turkeys per year.

In 1967, Mr. Jaindl was the first to operate a computerized feed mill in Orefield. In 1969, he completed building a “state of the art” turkey processing plant in Orefield. In 1973, Mr. Jaindl built a turkey hatchery that has grown to produce and distribute over 800,000 turkeys each year and owning over 13,000 acres of prime farmland in Lehigh, Northampton and Berks Counties. In addition to serving as Chairman of American Bank, Mr. Jaindl was a prior Chairman of the Board for Sovereign Bancorp, a past Chairman of the Executive Committee of the former First National Bank of Allentown and formerly was a board member of Kutztown Bank.

Mr. Jaindl formerly served on Parkland School Board and as a member of the Parkland School Authority. He was Founding Director of Lehigh County Community College, a past Chairman of the South Whitehall Planning Commission, a past Director of Phoebe Home. He also served as past Director of the National Turkey Federation Executive Committee, and was a past chairman of the Lehigh Valley Heart Fund.

Survivors:Wife; Sons John F. Jaindl and David M. Jaindl, both of Orefield, Mark W. Jaindl of Allentown, Daughters Mary Ellen Roper, Alice Anne Brown, Patricia Jaindl and Catherine H. Jaindl-Leuthe, all of Orefield. All of his children enjoyed working with their father every day in the family businesses. Mr. Jaindl is also survived by a Sister, Madelyn Robinson, of Allentown; 14 Grandchildren; He was predeceased in death by a son, Fredrick J. Jaindl, Jr., who died in 1994.

Services: Mass of a Christian Burial, 9:00 a.m., Thursday, April 1, 2004 in St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 1879 Applewood Drive, Orefield. No calling hours. A private interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Wescosville. The Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., in Schnecksville, is in charge of arrangements.
